Pastor's Corner
August 2010
Last Sunday one of the kids told me that they went "Back-to-School" clothes shopping. That means it's time to get back to a normal routine. It also means that our kids are going back to school and many parents and grandparents are nervous about what the year will bring for their children. Questions dance around in your head like, "Will they have good teachers and continue to learn?" "Will they make good friends or friends that will lead them down the wrong path?" "Will they be safe from bullying and refrain from bullying while they are at school?" "Will the curriculum be good, or will it reinforce different values than I think are important?"
These are questions that are in the mind of all parents and grandparents this time of year. There are many things we have no control over, but we as a church can contribute to the growth of the children here at Margaret Hank. Every week we can encourage, teach, and support our children and the families of our church.
Also, this time of year is scary for another group of people in our city. . .The Teachers. They have questions about how the students will react in class. "Will they be good?" "Will I have support from the parents and school administration?" "Will I be able to teach these children what they need to learn?" Every teacher must be nervous when they begin the year.
I am asking the congregation that in your prayers every Monday morning pray for the children of Margaret Hank Church as well as the children in the city of Paducah. Pray for the teachers and administrators. Pray for the parents of the children and also pray for the children themselves. They are also nervous about school starting. School is tough. I am sure we all remember how nervous that first day of school was when you're hoping that you know at least one person in your lunch period or in one of your classes.
Proverbs 4:5-7
5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, [a] get understanding.
Blessings to you all

Father, I pray for the children, families, and teachers of our church. May you give them peace during this time of apprehension. I pray wisdom, patience, and strength for them. Help us all, whether in school or out, that we have a hunger and desire for wisdom from above. Help us to be mindful of our young people here at the church because they are our greatest responsibility. -Amen
